Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I choose the right sorority?
A: We encourage you to do your research prior to seeking membership within our sorority to ensure that Sigma is right for you. Of course our national website can help you familiarize yourself with our mission, values, and national programs, but do not hesitate to reach out to current and past chapter members as well. We are more than willing to answer any questions you may have about membership! Q: What are the advantages of joining Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.? A: Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to develop and enhance their respective leadership talents through training and mentorship. Committee leadership and participation in sorority activities and programs further hones these talents. Sigma Gamma Rho membership provides an atmosphere to connect with a global network of professional contacts, provide invaluable mentorship, increase service to the community, and to join a sisterhood that lasts a lifetime. Q: Are community service hours required? A: No, however we are a service organization and we highly encourage you to have some service hours. Join us during one of our community service events to get service hours! |
Q: What makes Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. standout?
A: As the only sorority in the NPHC founded at a predominantly white university, Sigma Gamma Rho has distinguished itself as an organization with true focus on equity and opportunity. Our founders worked against members of the KKK (who were active just minutes away from their campus!) to build a legacy that stands upon resilience, determination, and service to the community. Once you become a member, you’re in for life! We cherish the bond of sisterhood and are eager to help each other develop. And just an added bonus: everyone looks great in royal blue and gold! Q: I've been told that I should not tell anyone which sorority I am interested in. What would I do in this situation? A: "Discretion" is a term used all throughout the Greek Community. It simply means that you should be discussing your interest with respective members of that organization as they will be able to answer any questions you may have and provide you with the proper information if you are interested in pursuing membership. So don't be afraid to reach out to current members about your interest! We can't wait to hear from you! |
